The Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge is like a history that is viewed and which, besides admiration, causes numerous thoughts, and even those that rise above the others – about the fate of one space and the relationship of a universal and permanent against the passing, said the Head of the Department of History of the Andrić Institute, Miroslav Perišić. He pointed out that Mehmed Paša Sokolović has a permanent place in history, who is inseparable from the bridge in Višegrad, of this region, and that is what he remains to lasts.

“The Bridge on the Drina which is history, the bridge as spirituality, as an artistic-construction work and achievement, as a testimony of time, but also a witness of time and epoch. The bridge that is a symbol, the bridge as something that humanises the culture of life, which is a humane work of the man’s idea, his imagination and the skills of his hands. The bridge is the topic of literacy,” said Perišić in Andrićgrad at a lecture on the theme” Life of Mehmed Paša Sokolović”.

Perisic stated that the life and destiny of Mehmed Paša Sokolović in different ways symbolize the fate of space that has a vast historical experience that is just apparently a part of local history.

He emphasized that it is especially important that such conference is held in Andrićgrad.

“Sometimes, besides what is said, how it is said and who is speaking, matters and where it is spoken. In that sense, it is a simple question in which the answer is contained, and that is, is there a more prominent place than this to talk about Mehmed Paša Sokolović – a historical person whose name has been known for centuries to all generations in this and wider area?” said Perišić.

He noted that the Andrić Institute was founded by the idea of its creator, Emir Kusturica, to shift cognitive boundaries to insufficiently or unexplored essentially significant historical themes, and one of them is Mehmed Paša Sokolović.
